The Alexa 35 is the newest camera offering from ARRI and pushes the boundaries of image making.
The new Super 35 format 4.6K sensor, a new color science workflow called REVEAL, improved low light sensitivity and a huge 17 stops of dynamic range, the Alexa 35 is set to define a new era is digital imaging.
The Alexa 35 features ARRI's first new sensor in 12 years. It is a 4.6K Super35 CMOS sensor with a huge 17 stops of dynamic range, which is 2.5 stops more than previous Alexa family cameras. These 2.5 stops are split with 1.5 stops of extra range in the highlights and 1 stop additional in the shadows. This gives the camera a beautiful film like roll off for highlights, while still letting you see deeper into the shadows without lifting other parts of the image.
With an exposure range of 160 - 6400 ISO, the ALEXA 35 is hugely flexible. When shooting between EI 160 - 3200 the new LogC4 curve does not change. When in the new "Enhanced Sensitivity Mode", you can shoot between EI 2560 - 6400. The way the ALEXA 35 works in this high ISO mode, is to employ real time noise reduction. The camera is limited to shooting only up to a 180 degree shutter, because for the second half of the exposure time, each frame has it's own noise sampled and subtracted from the preceding exposure. This results in very clean images.
The REVEAL Color Science workflow features an all new LogC4 curve, with new LogC4 specific LUT's, a new ACE4 Color Engine recording in the new AWG4 ARRRI Wide Gamut which fully encompasses Rec 2020. REVEAL is also backward compatible for use with ALEXA LF & ALEXA MINI LF when shooting in ARRIRAW and can be applied in post to match the ALEXA 35 and LF Footage together.
Lastly, and possibly the most exciting for Cinematographers is the ability to choose an in camera Texture to be applied to the image. With the ALEXA 35, ARRI are allowing users for the first time to have creative control for the way the camera handles the sensor data prior to encoding and recording. Textures changes to the way the camera see's the world and are achieved with changes to contrast & detail at a pixel to pixel level while also altering the amount of grain in the image. The ALEXA 35 comes with 7 preset Textures in addition to the default Texture which matches all preceding ALEXA family camera's.
The ALEXA 35 has an ARRI LPL Mount, and comes with a PL Mount adapter as standard.
Lemac offers the Production Set, with some lightweight shoulder pad and support options available on request.
A world of lenses both old and new pair beautifully with the ALEXA 35 and are available for you next project.
