Built by Carl Zeiss for ARRI and their Arriflex 35BL, the Zeiss Standard 35mm Format f/2.0 Primes were originally built in the late 1960’s through mid-1970’s. The name “Standard Speeds” was never formally adopted, however after the introduction of the Zeiss High Speed T1.3 line or “Super Speeds”, the “Standard Speed” name was adopted by the industry. In the mid-1980’s Zeiss debuted the improved MK II’s which featured integrated focus gears as well as the ability to accept either ARRI Bayonet or the “new” ARRI PL lens mount. The MKII “Standard Speeds” feature the same T* lens coating as the “Super Speeds” which makes then a great match for a second set or to extend your set of “Super Speeds”.
